Kathmandu: – India is constructing embankment on the border river without the consent of both the countries. India has been constructing its own dam on the Mahakali River since last Poush.
When India opened the gates of the Dhauliganga Dam, which will generate 280 MW of electricity in 2070 BS, the water level in the Mahakali River was high and 147 houses were flooded towards Nepal. Nepal’s 1,057 ropanis of land was flooded. At that time, when the river changed its course, 35 hectares of land in Nepal went to India. India is now building embankments on the land that was then turned into a bog.
If the flow of water in the river increases in the coming days, the villages of Nepal including Gulfai, Namaskar, Uku, Banku, Lali, Dhamdattu will be at risk and thousands of hectares of fertile land will be flooded. However, during the floods in Darchula in 2070 BS, Nepal had agreed with the CDO of Darchula and the District Officer (DM) of India as well as the technical team to build the embankment. Not only that, an agreement was also reached between the Nepal-India High Level Team Joint Standing Technical Committee. There is news in Rajdhani daily today.
