Makawanpur: – Bakaiya Gaupalika of Makawanpur district is going to be declared as the second Child Friendly local government of the country.

Damodar Khanal, chairman of the Gaupalika, informed that there is a program to declare the Gaupalika as child friendly today to develop it as a local level that adopts child friendly local governance.

The municipality had committed to adopt child-friendly local government from the village assembly on Asadh-30 of 2074 and to make child-friendly local government on Poush-17 of 2074. The Gaupalika has also passed the budget and program for the implementation of the same decision. The village municipality has allocated Rs. 5 million in the last fiscal year 076/077 and Rs. 8 million in the current fiscal year 077/078 for this program.

Work on child-friendly local governance has been started at the ward level with child-friendly facilitators in all 12 wards of the village municipality. Earlier, Manahari village municipality of Makawanpur was declared as the first child friendly village municipality.
