Appeal to be concerned over Air Pollution
Makawanpur. Stating that the air pollution in Kathmandu Valley and other places has created a serious crisis in public health, it has been requested to solve the problem immediately. The members of the Industry, Tourism, Forest and Environment Committee of the Bagmati Provincial Assembly have urged the Bagmati Provincial Government and the Federal Government to find immediate short-term and long-term solutions to control air pollution.
Committee members Nima Lama of the Nepali Congress and Biraj Bhakta Shrestha of the ‘Vibekshil Sajha’ Party have made an appeal public and reminded to solve the problem as soon as possible.
“This situation confirms that our steps towards environmental management, along with the management and development of cities, have failed,” the appeal said. He said in his appeal that the government’s decision to increase taxes on electric vehicles in the current fiscal year should be corrected as the government’s conclusion that pollution from smoke from petrol and diesel vehicles has increased.
State Assembly members Lama and Shrestha have said that it is shameful to mention Nepal’s capital as the most polluted city in the world. He pointed out that the government’s policy of not taking steps to make heritage cities like Kathmandu fully electric vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians friendly and to continue the old polluted way of life needs to be implemented. The general public has been appealed to take precaution.
They have also appealed to reduce the use of vehicles that increase pollution and not to burn firewood, plastic and other wastes to avoid the cold.
