Makawanpur: –Recently, women who thought that they should not be allowed to go out of the house when they were subjected to violence, and that the dignity of the family would go with them, have recently become public examples of people who can openly seek justice against violence. Accordingly, incidents of 147 Domestic Violence cases on women in Makawanpur during the first seven months of the current fiscal year have been registered at the District Police Office, Makawanpur.
According to the Women, Children and Senior Citizens Service Center Branch of the District Police Office, Makawanpur, decision over 124 cases have been done where as remaining are yet to be solved.
There were 21 cases of domestic violence against women registered in the current fiscal year. Of these, 17 cases have been solved. Out of 17 cases reported in Bhadra, 14 have been solved. 23 cases registered in Ashoj and all of them have been solved whereas 11 out of 14 cases reported in Kartik are being solved.
Similarly, out of 26 cases of domestic violence registered in Mangsir, decision over 21 cases has been done. According to the Women, Children and Senior Citizens Service Center Branch of the District Police Office, Makawanpur, 15 out of 23 incidents of violence were registered in Poush and 15 out of 25 incidents of violence registered in Magh have been solved.
Women have been found to be victims not only of domestic violence but also of other incidents. Among other incidents in the district, 10 incidents were registered in Shrawan. Out of 10 incidents, all the 10 incidents have been solved. In Bhadra, six out of six incidents have been solved. Of the 16 incidents registered in Ashoj, 12 have been solved. Of the eight incidents registered in Kartik, seven have been solved and Of the 11 incidents registered in Mangsir, 10 have been solved.
According to the Women, Children and Senior Citizens Service Center Branch of the District Police Office, Makawanpur, 4 out of 6 incidents registered in Poush have been solved and 8 out of 12 incidents of violence against women registered in Magh have been solved.
Accordingly, According to the District Police Office’s Women, Children and Senior Citizens Service Center, 69 incidents of other incidents against women have been registered in the current fiscal year. Out of which, 57 incidents have been solved and it has taken time to solve the remaining incidents due to various reasons, said a police source.
It has been found that 215 incidents of domestic violence and other acts of violence have been registered in the District Police Office in Makawanpur in a period of seven months. According to the Women, Children and Senior Citizens Branch of the District Police Office, Makawanpur, only 187 cases have been solved due to the absence of the person registering the remaining incidents and disappearance of the culprits.
Rights activists in Makawanpur say that women who are afraid of what will happen tomorrow when they come to the police office to lodge a complaint are able to move forward openly.
Aarti Pathak, a human rights activist, says that even though the number of victims of violence seems to have increased when the hidden incidents in the society became public, it is clear how many women have started coming forward for justice.
