Makawanpur: – It has been always a topic of gossip whether a new government will form or old one will work when Prachanda-Madhav faction members filed a no-confidence motion against Bagmati Chief Minister Dormani Paudel in the State Assembly.

Although the support of the Nepali Congress is essential for the survival of the old government or the formation of new government in the state, there is still confusion in the balance of power due to the confusion of the Nepali Congress.

After the dissolution of the House of Representatives on the recommendation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, the CPN reached at a point where there can be fraction of the CPN. Prachanda-Madhav faction of own party had filed a no-confidence motion against CM.

In the 110-members Bagmati State Assembly, 56 votes are needed for majority for any one of the faction. Out of which, 34 MPs re in favor of the CM whereas 45 MPs have signed motion against him, so that Congress seems to be decisive in keeping Paudel in the government or to form a new government. Moreover, Congress has 22 votes in the state assembly. Similarly, 3 are Bibekshil’s, 2 of RPP, 2 of Nepal Majdur Kisan’s, and one independent MP.

Even if all the smaller parties join the Dahal faction, a majority is not enough to form a new government in the state.

Congress sources informed that they are still in confusion which faction should be supported by them because of the no-officially split of the CPN.

Congress added that they will not support any party until the formal letter of split is received in the state assembly. Even if the other party splits and forms a state government, a vote of confidence must be obtained within six months. Experts say that this would not have been possible without the support of the NC.

The Prachanda-Madhav faction, who have filed a no-confidence motion, has assigned state in-charge Narayan Dahal, co-in-charge Ashtalakshmi Shakya and state assembly member Salikaram Jammakattel to consult with other parties.

From the Oli group, Chief Minister Paudel and Chief Whip Keshav Raj Pandey are holding consultations with the Congress and smaller parties.

Congress has stated that they are trying to take a decision before the seventh session of the state assembly.
