The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is set to create teachers’ quotas at all community schools in the city to introduce local curriculum at primary level from the next academic session.

Implementation of local curriculum from the academic session this year has been halted due to closure of educational institutions as a result of Covid-19 pandemic.

There are 91 community and 541 institutional schools within the metropolis and local curriculum at primary level (from grade 1 to 8) would be implemented from the next academic session, said Namraj Dhakal, chief of the Education Department at the metropolis.

The KMC was at work to send teachers and textbooks to the schools in this regard, he added. Recently, the metropolis’ 53th executive meeting decided to provide training to the teachers to be assigned to teach local curriculum in the school.

Currently, there are 42,000 students at community schools in the metropolis and 220,000 at institutional schools. Likewise, community schools have 1,791 teachers.
