Thapa Defeated by Amaresh Kumar Singh
Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa has been defeated in the House of Representatives election. Thapa, who contested from Sarlahi Constituency No. 5, was defeated by Amaresh Kumar Singh of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).
Singh secured victory with 35,688 votes, while Thapa received 22,831 votes.
Thapa, who was elected as the party president during the 14th General Convention of the Nepali Congress, was projected by the party as the future Prime Minister.
Amaresh Kumar Singh, who contested as an independent candidate in the 2079 BS elections after being denied a ticket by the Nepali Congress, represented the RSP in this election. Singh is well-known for his outspoken nature and distinctive style regarding various issues in Parliament.
