The final hearing on the writ against the dissolution of the House
Makawanpur. The final hearing on the writ petition against the dissolution of the House of Representatives is starting today in the Constitutional Court of the Supreme Court.
After President Bidyadevi Bhandari dissolved the parliament on the recommendation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and announced mid-term elections in two phases on Baishakh-17 and 27, the Prime Minister, who has a two-thirds majority in the Supreme Court, filed more than a dozen writ petitions against the dissolution.
Despite the Supreme Court’s decision to hold continuous hearings from today, the Constitutional Court convenes only every Wednesday and Friday, so it is understood that it may take about a month for the order to come.
Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Jabra had ordered to send the registered writs to the Constitutional Court.
A constitutional bench headed by Chief Justice Jabra and comprising Justices Harikrishna Karki, Vishwambhar Prasad Shrestha, Anil Kumar Sinha and Tej Bahadur KC had ordered to hear the case against the dissolution of the parliament from today.
Before starting the final hearing, the apex court had sought written reply from the President’s Office, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkotal and others.
Amicus Curiae has also been formed to assist the Supreme Court in this matter. Purnaman Shakya, Geeta Sangraula, Badri Bahadur Karki, Satish Krishna Kharel and Vijay Kant Mainali are in the amicus curiae.
