Vegetables damaged in Makawanpur due to hailstorm

Makawanpur: – The hailstorm that fell in Thaha Municipality of Makawanpur on Friday evening has completely destroyed the vegetables farming.

Sanjay Tiwari, chief of the municipality’s farming branch, said that potatoes, cauliflower, Cabbages, radish and other vegetables and fruits farming in 700 hectares and 200 hectares in Thahanagar were destroyed.

Farmers are worried after hail damaged the vegetable farming which is considered as main crop of Thahanagar. According to the locals, about one and a half feet thick hail has frozen in the land of the area.

The local farmers said that all the vegetables are destroyed so that they will again should face problems buy the seeds and fertilizers of the sown vegetables.

Last year, due to lockdown they could not sell vegetables. Currently, all the vegetables are damaged due to hail, ‘said Bishnu Lal Waiba, a farmer of Thahanagar-9, Chitlang.

Dil Bahadur Ale of Sisneri had a lot of vegetables in his garden. However, he described the pain caused by the hail. In Sisneri, about 21,000 metric tons of vegetables are produced in 1,750 hectares in a season. The area produces vegetables including gourd, bitter gourd, ladyfinger, tomato, carrot and greens.

During the downpour, vegetable traders, consumers and farmers faced many problems. The problem is that even when the lockdown is open, they are suffering from natural disasters. After the hail destroyed the vegetables produced by the farmers, there is a fear that the shortage of vegetables in the market will create a compulsion for the consumers to pay more.
