Earlier, Manahari Gaupalika of Makawanpur was declared as the first child friendly village municipality. Damodar Khanal, chairman of the village municipality, informed that the village municipality is being developed as a local level to adopt child-friendly local governance through a press conference on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The municipality had committed to adopt child-friendly local government from the village assembly on Asadh-30, 2074 and to make child-friendly local government on Poush-17, 2074. And budget has been also passed for the implementation of the decision. The Gaupalika has allocated budget of Rs 5 millions in the last fiscal year 076\/077 and Rs 8 millions current fiscal year 077\/078 for the program.<\/p>\n<p>Work on child-friendly local governance has been started at the ward level with child-friendly facilitators in all 12 wards of the village municipality. The village municipality has stated that they have been conduction child-friendly programs over the Gaupalika.<\/p>\n<p>Child Friendly Local Governance National Strategy 2068 and Child Friendly Local Governance Implementation Procedure 2068, Fundamental Rights of the Constitution of Nepal 2072, Children Act 2075, Local Government Operation Act 2074 have been implemented by adopting child friendly legal system.<\/p>\n<p>According to a survey conducted on Kartik-22\/23 of 2077 BS, 19 out of the total 39 indicators for Child-friendly local governance have been completed and the remaining 20 indicators have been completed up to 98%, informed Vice-chairperson Sarala Bolakhe.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>This is how we made Child-friendly Gaupalika <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Damodar Khanal, chairman of Bakaiya Gaupalika, said that the &#8216;child-friendly campaign&#8217; has gained significance after three years.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, a child labor and child marriage free zone has been created for the child friendly declaration. The work of preventing child marriage and reducing child labor has been continued.<\/p>\n<p>The village municipality is formulating a plan for child-friendly declaration and conducting trainings, seminars and interactions. He said that the construction and reconstruction of physical infrastructures has been done in a child-friendly manner.<\/p>\n<p>A women&#8217;s maternity center has been set up and transport allowance has been increased. Arrangement has been made to provide free blood to the people of the Gaupalika.<\/p>\n<p>Sarala Bolkhe, vice-chairperson of the village municipality, said that the Child Rights Committee, Village Child Network, Child Friendly Volunteers and Child Friendly Governance Committee have been activated for the announcement. Stating that there was a lot of struggle to reduce child marriage and child labor, she said that child marriages of 67 couples were canceled during their campaign.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Numerical Details<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The municipality has 8431 households and a total population of 46,248. Out of which 22403 are women, 23845 are men, 9428 are boys, 8032 are girls and the total number of children is 17460 or 37 percent.<\/p>\n<p>The number of pregnant mothers is 1,075 while the number of mothers who have undergone four pregnancies is test are 990. The number of mothers who have received 225 iron tablets is 1038 while the number of mothers who have given birth in the health facility is 826. Similarly, out of 96 women who have given birth at home, 1067 mothers who have been vaccinated with TD, 849 people who have undergone post-natal check-up and 436 out of 466 infants up to 6 months of age have received full breastfeeding.<\/p>\n<p>4282 children of the municipality have received Vitamin A and 3809 children from 12 months to 5 years have received anti-parasitic drugs. Out of 8431 households, toilets have been installed in 7741 households, hand washing with soap and water is practiced in 7821 households, out of 536 marriages, and 22 marriages under 18 years of age have taken place.
