Makawanpur<\/strong>: – The flood-effected Chepang\/Tamang community of Manahari Gaupalika ward no.4 has demanded the government to provide safe and sustainable housing.<\/p>\n

Till now, they have been living in Small houses and huts in the intermediate zone of Parsa National Park. Earlier, when the flood on Shrawan 27 and 28 of 2074 BS effected Lampakha, ChuwarPakha, Ajingare, Chisapani after that they have been living in intermediate zone.<\/p>\n

The park has repeatedly pressured them to remove the houses built by encroaching the land of forest.<\/p>\n

They have been also deprived of government services due to be settled in intermediate zone. Even the locals on the list of beneficiaries of the earthquake have not been able to sign an agreement for the construction of the building because they have been living in the forest area.<\/p>\n

Gaupalika Chairperson Ekraj Upreti said that there has been legal hurdle to recommend for the construction of 143 families on the list of beneficiaries of the earthquake.<\/p>\n

Despite their demands for the permanent settlement in safe places, the park administration is demanding to clear the area at any cost.<\/p>\n

Currently, there is fear of wild animals, scorpions and snakes in the area and access of drinking water and electricity has not been expanded till now. The Gaupalika has started laying electricity pole without deciding the sustainability of the settlement.<\/p>\n

Although the Gaupalika has allocated Rs 5 millions in the current fiscal year for the development of settlement area, the money could not be spent due to legal complications, said Chairman Upreti.<\/p>\n

He also added that it has been requested the concerned bodies for the stability of the settlement by managing the settlement scientifically.<\/p>\n

Reconstruction Authority team in Naya Basti <\/strong><\/p>\n

A team including technicians of the National Reconstruction Authority has monitored the new settlement on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

NEA Executive Committee member Dr. Chandra Bahadur Shrestha, District Coordinating Committee Chief Raghunath Khulal, Makawanpur Chief District officer Govinda Risal, Village Chairman Ekraj Upreti, Makawanpur Superintendent of Police Somendra Singh Rathore, Manahari-4 Chairman Dhruv Khadka, Parsa National Park staff, District Project Implementation Unit Employees and others have said that the problem of the settlement should be resolved as soon as possible after monitoring.<\/p>\n

Ward member Bishnu Praja and local Ram Bahadur Praja have demanded the team to make a decision in the same place instead of relocating the settlement.<\/p>\n
